With the new year comes endless possibilities. It is a time for reflection, resolutions, and goal setting. For some of us, goal setting is what drives our year forward. For others, it seems to lack efficacy. Perhaps you are someone who thinks in pictures, struggles with accountability, establishes unmeasurable intentions, or sets unrealistic objectives. One size does not fit all when it comes to looking ahead.
Here are some alternative strategies for setting up the next year for success. Whatever method you choose, reflecting on where you are now and embracing your ideal future can help you unlock a more purposeful 2025.
VISION BOARD
Create a photo or word collage that represents your most important visions for the new year.
BACKWARD MAPPING
Start with a 2-minute visioning exercise. Imagine exactly where you want to be a year from now. Notice the details. Open your eyes and record your vision. Then, note where you want to be in 6 months to achieve that vision. Repeat for 3 months, 1 month, 1 week, and 1 day. Take consistent, manageable steps forward to achieve each milestone and make your vision a reality.
WORD OF THE YEAR
Looking for something fun and simple? Try setting an intention for the coming year by picking one word that captures your aspirations, priorities, and mindset for the year ahead.
FRICTION AUDIT
Recommended by Dr. Adam Alter, Professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business, this exercise can help identify and reduce any obstacles holding you back.
1) Identify. List the least favorite parts of your day. Where are you feeling stuck?
2) Intervene. Remove or reduce friction by allocating resources (typically time or money).
3) Implement. Make adjustments and observe your behavioral shifts. Refine and optimize.
You have the power to make your dreams possible.
I would be delighted to hear from you! Reply and share what you learn about yourself as you envision the year ahead.
Sending love and hugs,
